MEET JOOBO: New to the L&S team, he can often be found upstairs by the espresso bar, making your americano, or chatting with you about our newest 2nd floor arrivals. Joobo has a knack for pointing people in the right direction for that understated, yet diverse piece to add to their closet rotation. And no wonder, as our Joobo is a designer himself, boasting an inventive mind, and a strong belief in understanding how things are made from scratch. Joobo has been around the fashion block for years and now has finally launched his own label. Dubbed Joobo Shim Studio, he handcrafts his creations paying particular attention to thread and material. It’s this kind of attention to detail and craft knowledge that makes him an excellent critique in the fashion world (though we’re fairly sure he’d be more at home behind a loom, weaving), so when he tells us a piece is durable and will last us a lifetime, we tend to believe him.
JOOBO’S STYLE & DESIGN NOTABLES: When you look at him, you’ll find he has a very unique style. Fitted in some places, draping in others, with strange tucks and silhouettes not often seen in North American fashion. That’s because Joobo is a man of his designs, and his designs are born from Eastern influence. Looking at historical costumes from a plethora of Asian countries, he adds a modern and personal twist for clean products. His efforts have garnered him prizes from a variety of showings, including the 4th annual KAMANY (he snagged first prize, and we would have been in tears with pride), and a placement as one of the top 15 designers out of the 30 that participated in the F.I.T versus Parsons Fashion Show.
We’re pretty sure that, when he’s ready, we’ll be proudly displaying his work at one of our famous Cinq à Septs; but in the meantime, we are delighted to have Joobo on board to offer more to your shopping pleasures at Lavish&Squalor. So don’t be shy to ask for his opinion on how to style your fresh find from our upper level or for its possible perfect pairing. He may not be the smiley type, but he’s perfectly nice; and loves to talk shop.
